3 Tips For Anyone With A Naughty Dog

If you already own a dog then you know what an amazing experience it is to have one. They give you unconditional love and companionship and never argue with you! I know some people hate how much attention a dog needs, and they prefer cats who can pretty much look after themselves as long as you keep them fed and watered, but dogs are still incredibly popular right now. If you do plan on getting a dog for the first time then spend some time learning how to care for them properly, there is a lot you need to know and it is not fair on them to take one in and not care for it properly.

Below we discuss three things you should know about dog ownership.

It will need training: We tend to let puppies get away with far too much as they are so adorable and we think they don’t know better, however when they are puppies then that is the best time to train them in how they should behave. A lot of people don’t bother with training, but if you don’t then you dog thinks it can get away with too much and will start to develop some really bad habits. Like chewing things to bits, particularly their dog bed, which means you have to buy a chew resistant dog bed if you refuse to train them out of the habit.

It actually doesn’t cost that much if you want to train your dog. The simplest way to train them is to attend some classes with your dog where you learn the techniques and get to apply them under the watchful eye of a trainer. As you start to apply the techniques outside of the lessons then your dog will start to listen to you and eventually do what you want without being told to.

Your dog needs grooming: You will need to groom your dog a lot, probably once a week or at least every two weeks, so while you can take them to a professional to have that done then the cost will soon mount up. Plus grooming is a really nice time to create a stronger bond between you and your dog, which you don’t get if somebody else is doing it. While grooming on a weekly basis is basically just running a brush through their fur to keep it looking good and stop it knotting up (visit MyDogBrush.com for brush recommendations) then an important part of the process is to keep an eye out for any injuries or rashes and cuts etc they may have while you do it.

You need to make time for your dog: Just because your dog can’t speak then that does not mean they are any less part of your family than a child, and they need just as much attention too. Just like with young children then if you do ignore your dog for too long then they might try to get your attention another way, by being bad so that you are forced to give them attention. So set aside some time when you get home to fuss over them and play with them for a bit, or make sure you take them out for a walk each day and play with them then.
